May Festival
Join us in our annual last-day-of-school tradition, May Fest!
We'll welcome in the summer with special student performances, a dance around the May Pole, face painting, flower crowns, jump rope making and a potluck lunch. Please bring tableware and cups for your family, a dish to share and a blanket to picnic upon.
To follow festival tradition, children are encouraged to wear white for this event. A white top or t-shirt works well!
Midsummer/ St. John's Bonfire
Enjoy the extended daylight of summer as we spend the evening outdoors enjoying a picnic among friends.
Please bring chairs or a picnic blanket, table settings for your family (including beverages/water), and a dish to share.
We'll gather at the fire ring near the North entrance, directly across from Shelter #2.
Upon this night, we settle about—our hopes rising like the patient moon.
We are one, a flame reaching towards heaven, touching the wind.
Our work is still before us as the journey calls, our lives are not embers, but sparks
spiraling northward like tiny nymphs. We dance among the trees in silence finding the
light as it spreads across the fields, out against a screen of sky, flumes of smoke flicker
and throw back the grey veil of our dreams, for it is in the heat of our hearts, we are
passing the torch to another world and leaping across the fire into the future.

Michaelmas Festival
Join us for our first festival of the school year! Michaelmas is a joyous celebration that matches the energy of the Autumn Equinox. Our students have been diligently and enthusiastically preparing for their class presentations including the annual Michaelmas Pageant. Much fun will follow with a shared potluck meal, bobbing for apples, obstacle courses and of course, the family favorite: Tug-of-War between parents and children.
Trivia Night
Get ready to put your thinking caps on, because this year's Trivia Night promises to be a hilarious evening of fun and friendly competition. It's the perfect opportunity to connect with friends old and new, and enjoy a night out with fellow COFS parents, staff and supporters. We encourage you to invite friends and family to join in the fun, even if they're not yet part of our school community. The more, the merrier!
Here's what you all can look forward to:
Trivia competition: Test your knowledge with a variety of trivia questions that span a wide range of topics. Whether you're a history buff, a science enthusiast, or a pop culture fanatic, there will be something for everyone! The game will start at 7 p.m. and last about two hours.
Raffle prizes: We've lined up an exciting array of raffle prizes that you won't want to miss out on. From special event tickets to unique Waldorf-inspired items, there's a chance you could walk away with something special. (Bring cash!)
Food and drink specials: TBA

Lantern Festival
As the sun sets, we'll gather around a cozy bonfire to enjoy the crisp autumn air and each other's company. Hot apple cider and paper bags of popcorn will be provided for everyone to savor. (Bring your own mug!) We'll also join in song before embarking on our enchanting lantern walks.
For those students who didn't have the opportunity to craft lanterns in class, please feel free to bring lanterns from previous years. It's a chance to bring the glow of past festivals into our present celebration!
The lantern walk is a joyful and magical experience that carries a sense of reverence. As we traverse the pathways, let's be considerate of everyone's journey and keep in mind that running back and forth may disrupt the tranquility of the event.
We look forward to sharing this beautiful evening with you and your families, and to embrace the warmth and spirit of this delightful tradition!

Spiral of Light Festival (COFS Families only)
Gathering for our Spiral of Light is a powerfully reverent experience. In quietude, we gather in a darkened room. Symbols of the four kingdoms and shiny stars are nestled in boughs of evergreen laid in a great spiral upon the floor. A lone candle-bearer takes their seat at the center, accompanied by gentle music. Then, one at a time, a child walks the spiral with an apple-candle, lights it at the center and places their candle upon a star along their way out. The brightness grows one apple-candle at a time, and a glowing warmth swells in your chest and wraps itself around you. The crowd that is holding space, the musician with instrument in hand, the walker bearing her single candle, the one at the center bestowing the light, all become a silent living prayer. It is evident that something far greater has stepped into our space.
Event Reminders
Arrival and Seating: Please arrive just before your scheduled start time. There will be a helper at the front door making sure the previous group is finished before your group enters the Fellowship Hall. Spiral Walk is an inward festival, so entering the building in a calm and quiet manner will help the children find the right mood. Families will enter and quietly find a seat together. Teachers will be there to greet and help children know what to do.
Photography: Please refrain from taking photographs or video during the Spiral Walk.
Dress: There will be multiple candles in and around the spiral, so for safety purposes no long or overly loose dresses. Hair is best pulled back. No light-up shoes.
We ask that you honor this festival as a time of quiet contemplation. The Advent Season means a lot of different things to different folks, but it is important that we all have a reverent experience together in a modern world where reverence can be difficult to find.
Please also remind your child that this is a contemplative evening. Quiet voices and respectful behavior are the expectation. If your child is having a difficult time staying quiet for a long period of time, we kindly request that you take a break with them in the hallway.
