Early Childhood

In the early years of childhood, birth to seven, children approach life through Doing. Surrounded by sense perceptions they are not yet able to filter, children are learning through free play and movement as they process these perceptions of the new world. Their thinking is dreamy, and exists through these physical experiences. Gradually thinking and memory transforms from a fantasy life that meets the moment to an intentional, imaginative capacity for building inner pictures and retaining them.

As a school, it is our job to protect and nourish them with a breathable, consistent rhythm and a calm, loving demeanor. They are living into their impressions of the world so deeply, they must be guided by conduct that is worthy of their imitation. We must surround them with an expectation of Goodness in the world, and purposeful action. We must guide them with tenderness, warmth, and firm boundaries. All of these provide security for full freedom of growth, and plant a seed of Gratitude.
