Enrichment

The City of Fountains grades enrichment program offers homeschooling families a sample of education inspired by the Waldorf approach. The lower, middle and upper grades classes meet every Friday from 9-1pm and each follows a daily rhythm that includes movement, music and verse, main lessons and daily outdoor time.

Some families choose to enroll their child in our [1st-8th Grades program](https://cityoffountainsschool.org/curriculum/grades/) Monday through Thursday, as well as the Enrichment program on Fridays, which creates a 5-day school week. When it is fitting, lead grades teachers choose to use Enrichment day as an extension of their Monday through Thursday curriculum and adapt lessons to fit students who attend Enrichment only.

The arrangement of classes varies somewhat from year to year, depending upon enrollment but typically goes as follows:

Lower Grades

This program is for children in Grades 1-3. City of Fountains School observes the warm learning environment inspired by Waldorf education and is a gentle transition from Kindergarten. The Lower Grades curriculum is rich with nature stories and folk tales. There is strong emphasis on seasons and festivals. We are outdoors during all seasons. Movement and group games are always a favorite! Each week an oral story is told, with artistic main lesson activities to accompany it. Occasionally, the students cook or bake a seasonal treat to share as well.

Middle & Upper Grades

The Middle Grades grades program is for children in Grades 3-5, and the Upper Grades is for students in Grades 5-8. We have regularly scheduled field trips that follow along with our main lessons, introducing topics such as paper making, drawing, painting, botany, zoology, Native Americans/primitive skills, clay sculpture, puppetry, theater and more.
